Overview

If you are interested in running your own pub business, the Pick and Shovel in Pontypridd is available now.

The pub is in the centre of Treforest and is located just off the A470 main road North of Cardiff. It is close to the University of South Wales Campus and the customer base is a mixture of locals/regulars along with students from the campus. The pub has live sports with Sky and TNT, Pool and Darts teams and the ability to host live music so has bags of potential. There is a small outside area to the rear of the pub. The pub is located close to the local Tesco Express which has a car park and is a short drive from Pontypridd.

This pub would benefit someone who loves sports and wants to have the best atmosphere in town for big matches. The ideal person would also be keen on holding events and looking at hosting quizzes/open mic etc. Some experience with the student market would be advantageous but not essential. You would also ideally have some food experience to take advantage of the own food offer.

The pub already has a great reputation locally with good guest feedback scores but it has a lot of potential for growth. There are opportunities to grow attendance for Live sports and also for hosting more Events and Live Entertainment at the pub. The pub has both darts and pool teams which help with midweek sales. There is a lot of potential with the own food offer also, Sunday lunches are popular but there is a gap in the market locally for breakfast at weekends which the pub is currently exploring. 
 
 
The site currently takes on average £5000 per week on a 90/10 wed led split but has the potential to achieve higher per week by targeting extra food and drinks sales.

What’s expected from you:

Our pubs are the heart of the community, bringing communities together by serving great drinks and fantastic events. It’s a proven business-model, perfect for either someone looking to take on a pub for their first time or more experienced operators to drive sales, standards and guest experience.

In addition to the £5k security deposit required for this agreement, you will need to cover legal costs (£360), and your own insurance (except building insurance, which we’ll cover). Also, you’ll want to start thinking about your team; taking care of paying them and all other employment matters.

Before we all sign the agreement and see you heading into a whole new life, you’ll just need to show us proof that you’ve had independent financial advice from an accountant and solicitor and have completed a sustainable business plan, in accordance with the Pubs Code. And, of course, obtain your personal licence (which we can help with) and complete your induction training.

It’s a five-year commitment, so you have loads of time to build the business 
and get it performing brilliantly!
